1- What is the currency in Iceland ?

2- Can I rent equipment at the World Scout Moot ?

The Moot offers the option of rental equipments (tents, sleeping bags and mattress) at http://skatabudin.is/en/products/rent.  The orders will close on May 15th.

3- When will I know in which patrol I’ll belong ?

Patrol allocation will be sent out in April. Each participant will have the contact information of their patrol members.

Each patrol will be composed of 10 participants and each tribes will be composed of 4 patrols. The patrol is a unit that partakes in the same program during the Moot. The tribe lives together during the duration of the Moot, creating friendships but also sharing the responsibilities for camping, food preparation and other tasks of daily living.

 

4- Where can I sleep before or after the Moot ?

The Moot set up some accommodations for before and after the Moot. More information in this link : http://travel.worldscoutmoot.is/en/accommodation/

You can book until May 15th 2017. After this day you will have to find accommodation by yourself.

 

5- Can I be with my friends during the World Scout Moot ?

It is too late now to choose a friend to be with you in your patrol.

 

6- What should I bring for the World Scout Moot ?

The Icelandic weather can change many time during a day, it’s important to take waterproof clothes and good quality equipment. Here what the moot team recommend to you to bring :

* A light, comfortable and waterproof backpack that is at the minimum 60 liters. Suitcases are not appropriate.

* A smaller backpack, suitable for day trips.

* A tent that is suitable for an Icelandic summer – probably a three season one for many other countries. It needs to be able to withstand strong winds and heavy rain.

* A sleeping bag that is comfortable for 0°C at the minimum

* A thin insulated mattress

* Warm and cold water bottle, plate, bowl, mug, knife, fork and spoon.

* A first aid kit (remember Band-Aids and second skin for blisters etc.) and personal medication

* Sunglasses

* Sun block (factor 6 minimum). Even if you have dark skin or do not normally burn in the sun, please bear in mind that the sun in Iceland is different due to the northern location of the country.

* A fly net in order to protect your face from the flies that can be found in some places.

* The following items of clothing:

o Scout uniform

o Shorts

o T-shirts

o Swimsuit and towel

o Warm wool or fleece underwear, long sleeve and long trouser

o Wool mixture socks (min. 70% wool)

o Warm sweaters (wool, fleece or primaloft)

o Rain- and windproof trousers and a jacket, at the minimum waterproof for 5.000 mm. A poncho is not useful as it may be windy.

o A warm hat and gloves.

o Trousers for hiking. Jeans are not useful.

o A minimum of two pairs of wool mixture hiking socks (min. 70% wool, non-cotton)

o Good and walked in hiking boots, waterproof, with good ankle support and a VIBRAM sole or equivalent. Sport shoes are not useful, except as an extra pair of shoes.

o Light shoes to wade in if you are doing any hiking.

The World Scout Moot will provide a big tent for each tribe with all the kitchen equipment.

 

7- How much does the food cost ?

In a supermarket :

Milk (1 l) – 140 ISK

Bread – 285 ISK

Hot Dog (pack of 5) – 694 ISK

Butter (400 gr) –469 ISK

Cheese (500gr) – 1.000 ISK

Coca Cola ½ l– 145 ISK

 

In Café/Restaurants :

Coffee – from 400 ISK

Soup of the day – from 900 ISK

Meal, inexpensive restaurant – 2.000 ISK

Hamburger and fries – from 1.500 ISK

Pizza – from 2.000 ISK

 

8- How much does the transport cost ?

There are several transport in Iceland.

Flybus :

From the airport to Reykjavik there is FlyBus company.

Flybus one way: 2.800 ISK (to Reykjavík BSÍ bus terminal or vice versa)

Bus:

One ticket : 440 ISK

9- Can I send package of food to Iceland? If yes, where?

It is not possible to send any food to the Moot Office before and or the camp sites. Everything must be brought and taken care of by contingents.

Laws about food importation in Iceland are very strict so if you want to bring/send food in Iceland, please check this website : https://www.tollur.is/English/individuals/customs/traveling-to-iceland/duty-free-imports/#food

In the plane, you can have 3kg with you of food, if you take more you have to pay a supplement.

If you send food to the post office in Iceland, you have to pay 11% tax to retrieve it.

 

10- Can I leave before the end of the World Scout Moot ?

If you would like to leave earlier than 6pm on the 2nd of August you will need to make your own travel arrangements. Departures from the Moot Camp site to Reykjavik will start from 6pm 2nd of August until 12 pm 3rd of August for participants and on the 4th of August for IST.

Shuttle services will be available from the Scout center to go to Keflavik airport for extra charge:

August 2nd at 18:00 (6 pm) August 3rd at 2:00 & 10:00 (2 and 10 am) August 4th at 10:00 (10 am)

12- Can I use the Moot logo ?

Moot logo can be used according to the standards published in bulletin 2 for your personal use. You can’t sell your creation with the Moot Logo.

 

13- What to do when I’ll arrive at the airport ?

There will be a welcoming team at the international airport in Keflavik from July 20th until July 25th . The team will be present at the airport according to the arrival times in the registration system. So if you have not filled in your travel information, please do so 😊
